Meet Tyler Nicodem, M.A.

Tyler Nicodem Worthy counseling center

Christian Counselor | Holistic Therapist | Former Pastor

Welcome to a transformative space where healing begins and personal growth takes root. I’m Tyler Nicodem, a Nashville therapist with a passion for guiding individuals on their journey to holistic well-being.

We’re wired for constant growth, always evolving in our understanding of who we are and who God is. Yet, it’s common to feel a sense of shame during these shifts — especially from our families, churches, or communities where change is unsettling and unwelcomed. You might have heard:

  • “Being gay is an abomination — you need to give your sinful desires to God.”
  • “You’re lazy. Your generation doesn’t work as hard as ours.”
  • ”If you have sex before marriage you are permanently stained. You’re like a chewed piece of gum, a ripped up paper heart, or like a beat up used car — no one wants you.”
  • “You are inherently sinful, wicked, and bad. You deserve an eternal suffering in hell because of how wicked you are.”
  • ”You must capture every sinful thought, behavior, and feeling. You must repress the desires of your heart for they are part of your sinful nature.”

You may feel shame, guilt, anger, loneliness, or fear as a result of these teachings. Sometimes, it may even feel like God can love and accept everyone else except you. You feel you are the sinner, you have wandered from God, and each day redemption feels further and further away.

At Worthy Counseling, I’m here to shift these perspectives. I see you as a unique, Holy being created in the Image of God. Together, let’s welcome change as an organic facet of our personal growth. Recognizing that each person’s journey is unique, I stand beside you as we explore your faith, relationships, feelings, and inner world.

Don’t let shame keep ruling your life. Give me a call and lets work together to guide you towards a life of hope, healing, and wholeness.

Pay attention to the things that bring a tear to your eye or a lump in your throat because they are signs that the holy is drawing near.”

Christian Counseling

You’re looking for someone who understands just how important your faith is to you; someone who intentionally integrates your spirituality into your healing. In the midst of so many therapists who are unwilling or are uncomfortable talking about faith, know that Tyler intentionally keeps faith at the center of your healing work.

Purity Culture Recovery

If you came of age in the 90s, 2000s, or 2010s, chances are you encountered purity culture. You might have been instructed to uphold “purity” as God’s mandate, perhaps even making pledges or wearing purity rings. Despite staying true to these ideals, you now grapple with shame and uncertainty regarding intimacy with your partner. Tyler is here to provide compassionate support as you navigate the complexities of your purity culture experiences.

LGBTQ
Affirming Therapy

Our LGBTQ-affirming therapy intertwines faith with compassion, offering a nurturing environment where spiritual and personal growth converge. Embrace authenticity and find solace in a journey towards self-acceptance, guided by a therapist who honors both your individuality and your beliefs.

Faith Deconstruction

Faith deconstruction is a unique and personal journey. A faith shift often brings a mix of emotions—from liberation to uncertainty. Therapy provides a safe harbor for you to navigate this emotional terrain, offering tools and insights to foster emotional well-being and resilience.

Ministry Burnout

As a former pastor in the church, Tyler understand the unique challenges that professional ministry brings. Whether you are at the end of your rope, been let go of your position for “moral failings,” or you feel tension with staff, congregants, or clergy, renewed hope can be found. With his expertise Tyler walks alongside you in the unique challenges you face in professional ministry.

Spiritual Trauma

Church is a haven for some, while for others it invokes pain. Church culture can deeply dismiss our basic emotional needs given to us by God. Church leaders may have taken advantage of you emotionally, spiritually, or sexually. You are not alone in your struggle; Tyler provides a safe space for you to find healing and hope from your church trauma.
